Many people ask what my favourite property is in the Asilia Africa portfolio. Without a doubt, I’ll always say Rubondo Island on Lake Victoria. The island, on the south west corner of the lake, is only 20km from end to end. The widest part of the island is where the little airstrip sits. 75% of the island is forested and home to elephants, giraffe, sitatunga and chimpanzees but my feeling is that these come secondary to all the butterflies, birds, diverse flora and the intriguing little camp. It has a Robinson Crusoe feel to it. The camp peeps out from the thick forest and lines the sandy beach banks of the lake.
From the hot, humid markets of Dar es Salaam to the bustling streets of Nairobi, this refurb project was an extraordinary experience from conceptualization to completion. This refurb was completed in September 2018.
